Summary[]
"The Ceres is the Burkeland Navy's answer to the Purshovian Demeter." - Shipwright Summary
The Ceres is a mercantile steamship from Burkeland, released to the public on December 18, 2022. The Ceres is not a limited-time ship and is available in the shipwright permanently. Her design is akin to to that of an oversized Dragon.
Characteristics[]
Overall, she bears similar ship statistics with the Demeter, as they both possess 30 cargo and 24,000 hull strength, 7 sail speed and 6 engine speed*. Her cargo capacity is slightly larger than the Camel's, having 4 more space for cargo.
The Ceres boasts a rather modest armament, featuring four light guns, two medium cannons, and four swivel guns, all positioned on the broadsides of the ship.
The swivel guns serve as a means of defense against potential raiders or pirates, though it is strongly advisable to evade combat situations due to the limited firepower of the cannons. A notable vulnerability lies near the engine block, where the cannons have limited firing angle, rendering the ship unable to effectively defend itself against small vessels in close quarters.
Unlike the Demeter, the Ceres does not have a stern turret, which makes her vulnerable against pursuing ships with bow chasers.
The Ceres' maneuverability is quite poor, as she has a wider turning radius than the Camel. She is also physically longer than the Camel, making her a very big target. However, the Ceres's steam engine allows herself to flee from interceptors by sailing upwind with her engines.
The Ceres is one of the largest ships in the entire game that is obtainable, which can lead to it getting stuck in areas such as Cannoneer's Key. She can also get easily bow locked due to her very, very slow turn speed.
The Steam Engine is a very useful feature of the Ceres, as it can allow herself to escape from most pirates. If the pirates happen to have a steamship though, you're in big trouble.
Trivia[]
- The Demeter is often considered a direct upgrade to the Ceres as despite having identical stats, it also boasts as turret slot on the Stern of the ship. This plays a huge role when being chased by enemy vessels.
- Named after the Roman goddess of agriculture and harvest of the same name, it's Greek counterpart was the Demeter.
- A Ghost Ceres can be created by redeeming 4 Purple Ghost Ship Vouchers
- Her cornered sides surrounding the engine makes her vulnerable to getting caught in docks and shores; however, if you used wisely by a good helmsman, they can be exploited to make the ship turn at a much faster rate.
